A Great Example of 'Bad Selling'!

I came across these two books the other day...and messaged the seller to ask for more details. I couldn't understand the dates the seller gave - 1952 and 1968 - with original white-spine wrappers.

I told her that white spine versions ended in 1951.

She wrote back to say the books weren't hers...she was selling them for someone else - a likely story, lol - and then dropped the 'bombshell' that the covers 'appear to be facsimiles'. This isn't mentioned anywhere on the listing.

The postage for these two Famous Fives is - £6.00!!! I myself charge only £2.80 for up to three books!

As Donald Trump would say 'BAAAAAD Seller!'

Nasty is a bit harsh, Courtenay for someone you don't know.

I guess when Blyton is being sold many will try it on. Fortunately for Rob, he knows the books and what he's talking about. These sellers aren't that experienced and sometimes can come a cropper, as it were.

I was merely sending up Donald Trump, as was Rob — hence the "evil" smiley.

This thread is making me feel a bit guilty for those bargain ebay purchases I've made when the seller clearly hasn't had a clue about the true value of the editions they are selling!

Don't feel guilty! Some of the first Famous Fives I bought on eBay were very early editions (1951 - 52 new wrappers) for just £1,99 each. I felt very guilty - for about three seconds. ;-)

If sellers don't do their research, it isn't our fault when we pick up a real bargain. :)

It doesn't make me feel the slightest bit guilty. :D

Me neither. :P Not that it happens often with me.

At least if someone is selling something at a much lower price than it's genuinely worth, it's probably that they're honestly not aware of how much it could fetch. A lot better than somebody selling an item for a much higher price than it's genuinely worth — which we've all seen at times. :x

Mainly it was the fact that the seller doesn't think it necessary to admit the wrappers are just copies. At least these books were fairly cheap - but it would have been better to have the later wrappers, at least!

I saw those and wondered if the wrappers were copies as they looked remarkable tidy for originals  The postage is a bit steep though, mind you I saw someone selling one not very large book on eBay the other week who wanted £7.50 postage for standard second class!!
