Isn't Scotland now doing a version of the Finnish baby box? :D There, if you've got that, you'll have all the immediate essentials and can focus on the things of more deeper and lasting significance. Like Blyton keepsakes.

We are, and I'm hoping to get one! I also hope I can get a list of what's in it so I don't end up buying things and getting duplicates later.

Tony Summerfield wrote:I have been offered Dorothy Wheeler table cloths before, but they are normally quite a big bigger than this and usually the asking price is over £100. These things probably date from the late 1940s as after that Noddy rather took over on this sort of thing!
Thanks for that info, Tony - then it is older than the buyer thinks, maybe? :-) I am very tempted myself, except it would probably be only folded away and never looked at!

I can think of many more useful things I could buy with £50

I do like it (and as Tony pointed out earlier, it's more likely from the 1940s (as it doesn't feature Noddy) and items like this often sell for more than that), but I don't have any use for it and I could certainly buy more useful things with £50 as well! :P

It's very sweet, but would probably end up folded away as it has been all these years, by the sound of it. Tempted, but not enough!

I agree. If I bought it, I'd just put it away in a drawer! Nice item though! :-)

Before Noddy took over there were many lovely merchandise items games and napery based around the Newnes characters of that time. Here are some pictures of other tray cloths & table cloths from that time. Sorry the photos are bad, not good at taking & loading photos. There are two large cloths about 35 inches square, 3 about 16 inches square and 1 about 16 x 11 inches. I also have many EB hankies with a variety of these characters on them.

Attractive items, Sue! I can't see the bottom two pictures very well, though I like the look of the black cat. On the ones above I particularly love the Mr. Pink-Whistle and Brer Rabbit scenes.

I must get some lessons so I can take photos & upload them that are worth seeing.
Its a shame these ones aren't clear as they have lovely little poems next to each picture
The black cat poem is as follows:
The witch's cat all softly goes
On her quiet velvet toes.
Black as soot with eyes of green
There she passes like a queen

I'm not at all good at working with images myself, and since Photobucket stopped free hosting I haven't got round to trying any other picture-hosting sites.

Thanks for typing out the poem, Sue. It's great! It portrays the cat's stately demeanour perfectly.

The handkerchiefs look like they were originally from Enid Blyton's Handkerchief Book - you can see it here on eBay - and some of the handkerchiefs too -

Rob, they are not hankies, they look small in the photo but they are actually about the size of 4 hankies. I didn't photograph any of the hankies that I have. I also have the handkerchief book.

My mistake! I can see now I've looked again that they aren't quite the same - but they are very similar! :-D
