Could make a reasonably priced gift for someone.Can anyone recognize the book cover/edition the illustration comes from?

It must be late 1970s at least, as Timmy is shown as black and white — I'm sure he was never illustrated like that (even by Betty Maxey) until after the 1978 TV series with Toddy the border collie playing Timmy.

The cover looks like the Five are running back to the tiny inlet, pursued by the bad guys who have escaped from the dungeon cell in "Five on a Treasure Island"! I agree with Courteney. It looks like a 70's cover version. Don't know who illustrated it, though. :D

I actually had the book that cover is from, it's a three in one hardback with four stories in it, the first four if I remember correctly. I don't think I've still got it, but I'll see if I can find a picture :D

EDIT:

This isn't mine, I've had a good look around but I can't find it so it must have gone at some point, but it's the exact same book:

I have checked in the Cave, and I see that that is a 1990 Treasure Press edition, illustrations by Jolyne Knox, cover by Peter Kesteven.

I love the cover - shame about the internal illustrations. Jolyne Knox has to be the worst Famous Five illustrator ever!

hearts mad delight,

I'll warm me with your echoes
through the night.'

I thought I knew every crack and cranny in the Cave, but I can't find this book or the name Peter Kesteven anywhere, you will have to enlighten me as to where it is! :roll:

Just found it, Tony: http://www.enidblytonsociety.co.uk/book ... amous+Five" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I can't see a credit for the first edition cover, so I assume it's by Jolyne Knox too. I definitely prefer the one that's credited to Peter Kesteven!! :shock:

I prefer the second edition cover too, the first one is, er, not good :shock: . I think the worst part of it is that it looks as if it's done in CGI, which is one of few things I well and truly loathe :x .

I must say in particular the kid in the foreground of the first edition cover, with the fluffy blond hair (is it meant to be Dick??), looks more like some kind of cartoon character than a real boy. And what's that he's holding — a Walkman?! :shock:

Yes, it took me a while as it wasn't with the omnibus editions. In the end, I just put the word exciting in the search box and it came up.

I've got the second omnibus in this series (Caravan, Kirrin Island Again, Camp, Trouble) and I've never been able to find that in the Cave just by browsing either, I had to type in Treasure Press and then it appeared.
