You keep it close to your heart, Pete?

I do agree Honda and Hyundai have similar badges, but I usually remember which one is which (Honda is the "upright" one).

Some years ago when my dad bought a Peugeot (not nearly as common in Australia as here, especially in country areas like where we live), he found a lot of people confused it with a Holden — Australian equivalent of Vauxhall... :P

I guess they just saw the lion and Holden was all they could think of!

Well, not really — only at a cursory glance, especially if you're a typical country Aussie who sees Holdens every day and Peugeots very rarely! People do drive European cars in Melbourne and the other major cities, but they aren't common elsewhere (or they certainly weren't while I was growing up — it may be different now) and most country garages, including our local one, won't service them. Other than Holden and Ford, the most common makes of car in Australia are the Japanese and Korean ones, probably because we're closer geographically to them than to Europe.

I have never seen a Holden at all. Only Peugeots. And yeah, at a glance they look very similar. When I was small, though, I could not see the difference between a Hyundai and Honda.

Well, that'd be because Holdens are mostly only sold as such in Australia and New Zealand. The company is owned by General Motors, though, so almost all its cars are essentially the same as Vauxhall in the UK and Opel on the Continent. What you call a Vauxhall Corsa here is a Holden Barina in Australia — absolutely identical car, just a different name and badge. Likewise, the Vauxhall Astra is sold in Australia as the Holden Astra. So you have actually seen plenty of Holdens, just not under that name.

Vauxhalls are called Opals in Ireland. I have no idea why.

Hi Sue - lovely to see you posting again here!

The original badge was sold on 12 Oct, 2016 for a very reasonable £1.40.

There is currently another badge for sale on ebay - albeit at a higher price:

Vintage Enamel Badge - 1950s Enid Blyton's Magazine Club

I have one of these badges myself and I must say there are extremely good quality and built to last!

Best Wishes

Pete

My badge was from eBay and also cost me around £1.50. In fact I got it in 2016, but not sure if it was the one listed above, lol! They are very well-made, as Pete says. :-)

Actually people wouldn't be wrong about it any longer after Peugeot bought Opel/Vauxhall from GM...
