Enid Blyton's Handkerchief Book
This is a book I've never seen in real life, though I've heard about it. I can't even find it in the cave...but I'm sure it's there - just doesn't come up if I search for 'handkerchief'.
Its being sold by Stella and Rose...so obviously it's expensive - £803. 40 - but it looks in great condition, and is complete with all the handkerchiefs! fascinating item!

hearts mad delight,
Sing on, sing on, and when the sun is gone
I'll warm me with your echoes
through the night.'

Not to be, er, sniffed at?
"It's the ash! It's falling!" yelled Julian, almost startling Dick out of his wits...
"Listen to its terrible groans and creaks!" yelled Julian, almost beside himself with impatience.

Now I've heard everything... Lovely Dorothy Wheeler cover with some familiar characters.

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

That's a lovely item. It says 'Make an Offer'. Do you think they'd accept £25?

No, it is not in the Cave or in my bibliography. I have seen it 'in the flesh' (although I don't own a copy) and it is very nice, but I didn't think it could really count as a book as it is just a means of storing handkerchiefs. I have seen other handkerchief books as well, but these have all been Noddy ones. I put it on the same level as an Enid Blyton scrap book - and I have seen one or two of those as well. The one for sale came out in the late 40s, about the same time as an equally nice Dorothy Wheeler table cloth, which also normally sells for three figures!Rob Houghton wrote:This is a book I've never seen in real life, though I've heard about it. Good point, Tony — but you have games and puzzles and other similar novelties in the Cave, which don't exactly count as books either...Tony Summerfield wrote: No, it is not in the Cave or in my bibliography. Re: Enid Blyton's Handkerchief Book
I think this is one of the problems, that it is intended to be a Cave of Books, and my plans to have a separate Treasure Chest (which I worked on three years ago) with all the merchandise in it all fell through. In the 50s and 60s there were well over 100 companies producing Blyton merchandise and what I show in the Cave is just a very small fraction of what was available to buy.
